Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 and Michiganians across the state celebrated. At Bement Park in Lansing (left) workers gathered and held a parade. The same year in the Detroit Labor Day Parade, cigar workers marched with this float (below) made by the Cigar Makers International Union.
