An impassioned picketer jeers at the 75 employees returning to work on the 81st day of the Square D Electric Strike, September 3, 1954.
The Square D Electric Plant made electrical parts for military aircraft, as well as supplies for the Atomic Energy Commission. The management alleged that the strike was caused by communists within the union, whose goal was to weaken the defense industry. The strike was long and bitter, and those who chose not to return to work lost their jobs.
