In 1958, AFSCME modernized its dues reporting system with the Remington-Rand punch card method. This image appeared in the November 1958 issue of AFSCME's Public Employee magazine with the caption:
“Lou Pasley, tabulating division supervisor, and Gordon W. Chapman, International Secretary-Treasurer, inspect the work of the electronic sorter which arranged the cards by locals, states or region, or any other desirable ways. The machine can handle 800 cards per minute.”
