“Black Jesus” Shrine at Sacred Heart Seminary located at Linwood and West Chicago Boulevard.

“Black Jesus” came into being during the second day of the Civil Unrest of 1967 when an African American house painter painted the hands, feet and face of the white Sacred Heart of Jesus statue black. The Seminary survived the Civil Unrest of 1967 unscathed and has continued to repaint the statue black, as needed, over the decades.
