AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS ORAL HISTORY PROJECT

AFT-sponsored series of interviews conducted between 1985 and 1987 by Renee Epstein with leading figures in the union. Topics discussed include the rise of the militant teacher, first collective bargaining, first strikes, AFT political structure, Shanker vs. Selden fight, and Oceanhill-Brownsville. The collection also includes an interview with four participants in the 1946 St. Paul Federation of Teachers strike, conducted in 1974 as part of the History of Minnesota Labor Project.
