(30890) Copper Country Strike, Violence, Dally - Jane Funeral, 1913

Mourners attend the caskets of Arthur and Harry Jane and Thomas Dally as the funeral procession makes its way through town.

On December 7, 1913 at 1:55 a.m. the three men were murdered when blind shots were fired from the woods into Dally's home. The Jane brothers were recent arrivals from England who were to start working in the mine the next week. Dally owned the boarding house on Baltic Street where the men stayed. It is widely assumed that the men were targeted because they were "scab workers." Also injured in the incident was Mary Nicholson, a 13-year old girl who lived in the adjoining home. Mary received wounds in both the head and shoulder.
