Sholem Aleichem Institute was created in 1926 to provide an independent nonpartisan Jewish school in Detroit. This group evolved into an adult organization that has engaged in numerous educational, cultural and social activities over the decades. The Sholem Aleichem Institute is a secular, cultural Jewish organization that holds Jewish holiday observances, Onegai Shabbat
on topics of general Jewish interest, and many cultural and social activities. One of its major aims is to perpetuate the use of the Yiddish language. It strives to provide its members with a sense of belonging to the Jewish people through meaningful Jewish activities.
