 <description>&lt;p&gt;Thousands of people march towards Hart Plaza for the symbolic funeral of “the N-word.”&lt;br /&gt;
The celebration included a pine casket with the word inside that was carriage pulled through the streets of Detroit in a horse-drawn carriage. Speakers included Governor Jennifer Granholm and Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. The burial was part of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People&#039;s national convention. &lt;/p&gt;

 <description>&lt;p&gt;The memorial wall for Malice Green, located at West Warren and 23rd Street.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Malice Green, a black man, died after he was beaten by two white Detroit Police officers police during a traffic stop on November 5, 1992. The mural, created by artist Bennie White Israel, has been retouched and maintained through the years. The building was the former medical office of Dr. Alexander Turner.&lt;/p&gt;

 <description>&lt;p&gt;“Black Jesus” Shrine at Sacred Heart Seminary located at Linwood and West Chicago Boulevard. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;“Black Jesus” came into being during the second day of the Civil Unrest of 1967 when  an African American house painter painted the hands, feet and face of the white Sacred Heart of Jesus statue black. The Seminary survived the Civil Unrest of 1967 unscathed and has continued to repaint the statue black, as needed, over the decades. &lt;/p&gt;

 <description>&lt;p&gt;Detroit’s historic Gem Theatre slowly makes its way toward its new home at 333 Madison Avenue. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The building was restored by Chuck Forbes in 1991 but faced demolition shortly after when plans were drawn for the construction Comerica Park and Ford Field near its location. The building was moved on November 10, 1997, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the heaviest building ever moved on wheels.&lt;/p&gt;
