Central High School Records

Central High School was originally located at the intersection of Warren Avenue and Cass Avenue in Detroit. It was the successor to Capitol High School, the first high school in Detroit, founded in 1858; Capitol changed its name to Central in 1896. CHS began to offer college courses in 1913, and this program evolved into the Detroit Junior College, which became the City College of Detroit, Wayne University, and finally Wayne State University. In 1925, CHS relocated to 2425 Tuxedo Street in Detroit. It now operates as Central Collegiate Academy.
The Central High School Records consist primarily of yearbooks and student publications of the Detroit Central High School for the years 1902-2004. Also included are materials relating to Central High School alumni, including alumni journals, alumni directories, minutes from meetings of the Alumni Association, and material concerning the Detroit High School Alumni Association for the years 1860-1916.

Louise Potter was part of the faculty of Central High School and Detroit Junior College from 1923-1924. Her papers document various activities and programs at these schools.

Wayne State University Yearbooks

This collection contains yearbooks of Wayne State University, its predecessor institutions, and certain schools and colleges within the university. Included are yearbooks for the Detroit College of Medicine (1900, 1914, 1929); Detroit Junior College (1923); Detroit Teachers College (1923, 1924, 1932); the College of the City of Detroit (1923-1932); Wayne University (1934-1955); Wayne State University (1956-1957, 1974-2005); the Department of Mortuary Science (1949-1982); the College of Medicine (1962-1963); and the School of Medicine (1965-1993). For the period between 1958 and 1973, no undergraduate yearbook for Wayne State University was produced.

The first college yearbook produced by Wayne State University -- or, to be precise, by the Detroit College of Medicine (DCM) -- appeared in 1900: the Souvenir Annual, prepared by that year's junior class. The last, or latest, Wayne yearbook is 2005's The Warrior. In that 105-year span 131 yearbooks were published by the university, its predecessor institutions, and its departments and colleges.
