AFSCME member Stan Smith of Chugiak, Alaska completed the Iditarod in 1993. A member of Alaska State Employees Association/AFSCME Local 52, Smith and his team placed fourth among rookies. It took 17 days 6 hours 21 minutes and 44 seconds to complete the 1,000 mile dog sled race.
