Caption on the back of the photograph reads: “This photo from July 21, 1915 was taken a moment before a striker was killed in the rioting of striking employees at the Standard Oil plant. In the picture the men are seen throwing stones, preparing to hurl them, or searching for weapons. In the foreground is seen a man with his hand thrust in his rear pocket in the act of withdrawing a weapon.”
