Call for Applications: 2016 Sam Fishman Travel Grant Program

The Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs invites applications for travel grants of up to $1,000 as part of the 2016 Sam Fishman Travel Grant Program. The program provides research grants to support faculty, students, independent researchers, and union members to defray travel, lodging, food, and other costs to conduct research in the Reuther Library’s extensive labor collections. The award is named in honor of Sam Fishman, a former UAW and Michigan AFL-CIO leader and grants are given in support of projects relating to labor history.

Recipients are selected through an annual competitive application process in January for travel to be completed during the subsequent calendar year. As part of their research visits, awardees are invited to speak about their work at an informal event at the Reuther Library, or to submit a proposal for the North American Labor History Conference on the Wayne State University campus October 20-22, 2016. Recipients are required to submit a two-page research report and an expense report within one month of the conclusion of their research visit. Awards may only be used to reimburse receipted expenses and recipients will be required to complete a federal W-9 form.
