Pat Thornton was a precinct delegate for the 17th District in Michigan. In early 1966, she, along with John Weiss (University of Michigan Professor), Otto Feinstein (Wayne State University Professor), and Mary Davis (Precinct Delegate) helped form the Council for Democratic Action. Their purpose was to organize together to influence public policy. Membership grew and on March 15, 1967, became the Liberal Conference of 17th District Democrats. The Liberal Conference worked to influence policy on racism, war, and poverty within the Democratic Party, as well as encourage other liberals to become more involved in the Democratic Party.
Materials in this collection include meeting agendas, newsletters, membership lists, and other related documents of the Liberal Conference of the 17th District Democrats from 1967-1976.
