Solidarity Statement
The Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs continues to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all those fighting for racial justice. Over the past 60 years, we have cared for archival records representing the voices of activists and community organizations. Among these records are those documenting the effects of police brutality and structural racism on Black communities, particularly in our city. In the coming weeks, the Reuther will expand online access to a number of these important collections.
We pledge to redouble our efforts to be good stewards of these collections, while looking deeply at our own organization and taking greater steps toward equity in our profession. Collectively, as a staff, we will fight to honor our mission, vision, and values while aligning our actions and archival practices towards increased racial justice in a manner that is explicit, transparent, and befitting to all those that have lost their lives in related struggles.
