As a resident of Detroit, Renee Vandewater served in a variety of cultural organizations dedicated to community service and to the preservation of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Orchestra Hall. As president of the Friends for Orchestra Hall and the chairman of Volunteers for Save Orchestra Hall, Inc., Ms. Vandewater was active in initiating the restoration of Orchestra Hall and established the Praeludium and Daytime Performance concert series.
Ms. Vandewater’s papers reflect her work with the Friends for Orchestra Hall and with the International Institute, an organization providing immigration and cultural education services. Included are materials documenting the history of Orchestra Hall and the early years of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
