Kurt Keydel was the son of Oscar Keydel, who brought a statue of Johann Gutenberg from Mainz, Germany in 1885. Mr. Keydel attempted to have the statue mounted on the campus of Michigan State University in 1946 and subsequently on the campus of Wayne State University in 1965.

The Kurt Keydel Papers consists of correspondence, clippings and photographs pertaining to the Gutenberg Statue and the attempts to have it placed on the campuses
of Michigan State University and Wayne State University. Correspondence is filed in chronological order and covers the period from 1946 to 1967. Undated photographs were transferred to the Audio Visual Collection.
