Michael Winter and Karl Oberndorfer, attendees of the annual party of the Detroit Austrian Society, held at Carpathia Hall, share a story. Mr. Winter came to America 16 years prior, dressed in the same suit he wore this night.
1,200 people attended the event, all dressed in national costume. An estimated 68 barrels of beer "went down the hatch," according to the photographer's notations.
