In September 1968, members of AFSCME Local 850 Atlanta Maintenance & Sanitation Department Employees, struck for higher wages. One picket sign exhorts readers to remember Memphis, where a few months earlier, during a sanitation workers’ strike in that city, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.
