UAW Local 1975 Records Now Open
The Reuther Library is very excited to announce the opening of the UAW Local 1975 Records . Hailing from Ypsilanti (that’s pronounced “ip·suh·lan·tee”), UAW Local 1975 (also known as UAW/TOP Local 1975) is a labor union representing clerical workers at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). The UAW chartered the union local in 1975, when EMU’s clerical/secretarial staff voted to unionize. In 1976, members ratified their first contract with their employer. Local 1975 continues to represent EMU’s clerical workers during collective bargaining, grievance procedures, and much more.
The UAW Local 1975 Records are comprised of the administrative records from the offices of the union local representing clerical workers at Eastern Michigan University. These include binders of notes regarding contract negotiations with EMU, meeting minutes from the union’s various committees and taskforces, union newsletters, appointment/vacancy reports, correspondence, and much more.
Gavin Strassel is the UAW Archivist at the Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs, as well as a native of Ypsi.
