Richard Reist was a charter member of American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 1620 (Lansing Federation of Teachers), holding the posts of vice-president, treasurer, and publications chairman, and served as vice-president of the Michigan Federation of Teachers. Mr. Reist’s papers reflect local and statewide efforts to unionize teachers, and the union’s interest in education legislation.
