Thousands of people march towards Hart Plaza for the symbolic funeral of “the N-word.”
The celebration included a pine casket with the word inside that was carriage pulled through the streets of Detroit in a horse-drawn carriage. Speakers included Governor Jennifer Granholm and Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. The burial was part of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's national convention.
