Detroit’s historic Gem Theatre slowly makes its way toward its new home at 333 Madison Avenue.
The building was restored by Chuck Forbes in 1991 but faced demolition shortly after when plans were drawn for the construction Comerica Park and Ford Field near its location. The building was moved on November 10, 1997, earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the heaviest building ever moved on wheels.
