Mayor Coleman Young and Secretary of Transportation Coleman preside over the return of trolley car service to the downtown area.

Streetcar service was discontinued in 1956, however in 1976 four newly restored cars were brought over from Lisbon, Portrugal to serve the Washington Boulevard area, mainly as a tourist attraction. The service was suspended in 2003.
