While the voices of Black individuals are generally underrepresented in archives, Reuther Library has a number of collections that help document this history in varied formats and perspectives, and we've added more in recent years. Bringing LGBTQ Primary Sources to Classrooms

The Ernest L. Horne papers documents the activities of the gay and lesbian liberation movement in Detroit from 1984 through 1996, primarily through the records of three organizations Horne as involved in: Association of Suburban People (ASP), South Eastern Michigan Gay and Lesbian Association (SEMGLA), and Detroit Area Gay and Lesbian Council (DAGLC). For the second half of my practicum, I worked with the Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University to create a set of archival documents based on these important records to be used in classroom settings, including a teacher plan to help guide discussions. read more »
Meet Dallas Pillen, Technical Services Archivist

The Reuther Library welcomed Dallas Pillen as its new technical services archivist in June. In this position, he will be working with the Reuther’s technical systems, managing metadata about the Reuther’s collections, and assisting the Reuther’s archivists and donors in transferring and preserving digital files. “I am really excited about all the great opportunities that exist to provide and promote remote access to digital content,” he said. read more »
The Michigan Black History Bibliography Now Available Online

Wayne State University’s Walter P. Reuther Library, in partnership with the Wayne State University student chapter of the Society of American Archivists, is pleased to present an online version of the Michigan Black History Bibliography (MBHB), which originally existed as a card file. The online version of the card file contains hundreds of bibliographic references to sources illuminating the history of African Americans in Michigan up until the early 1970s. read more »
