This area of the Reuther's Web site currently encompasses approximately 300, fully transcribed, speeches delivered between 1965 and 1996 by American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President's Charlie Cogen, David Selden and Albert Shanker. The speeches are organized chronologically by date. Please contact Dan Golodner for project details.
Shanker gives a personal and organizational view about conclusions that were made from the recent Carnegie Report.
Shanker is optimistic about the recent Carnegie Report because it calls for changes to public education that will make a positive impact.
Shanker's speech is centered around building a strong union. He compliments them on building a solid union with good leadership. He says that they have a good base but now they need more organization.
